Campbell at viaduct fishery

This was my last match booked at this fishery, it was meant to be a float only league on Campbell and cary, 40 pegs, but the fishery has decided to stop all matches on cary , handing it over to the carp and pleasure anglers, so i was limited to numbers so i made it a short pole match, topset and three, 22 booked in which was as many as i was allowed. Stopped off at the brewers fayre in street for breakfast, very nice but a bit on the cool side, (4.3). everyone was on time so i got the draw underway, i let ollie dark draw for me and ge gave me 118, no complaints from me, although i would be sat in the shade all day, and it was a bit cold, so i had to sit with the windstopper on all day.
For company i had leon(peter pan)hubbard on 117, and tyler(marine boy)alder on 119, the wanted.peg today without a doubt was 135, and as expected niel Mercer was on that, no surprise to anyone to be honest, he is even admitting now that he is a relentless drawer of good pegs. It was a good job trig and beever weren't here today as they may have struggled to share the swim,😂. I kept it simple.today, a rig for hard sixes over fours, anothe for 8,s over 6,s. Both to fish in front, fours with sixes at topset and one, and also on the longer line also straight out, the 8,s and sixes line was off at 10 o'clock angle, and a rig again for pellet down the left back into the bay. I haf a reasonable.start on the short line catching some nice skimmers and occasional carp, but after 90 minutes that line dried up, so out on the 6 over 4.s line for some more skimmers and carp, but the skimmers seemed.to be drifting away, as the numbers.of carp increased. I tried several times down the edge , two bites two good carp ,and that was the end of my margin fishing, most of the remainder of the match was spent on the 8,s over 6,line, catching some nice fish, the fishery now operates a 60lb net limit, so i had to borrow a net off leon towards the end as i was only putting 50lb into a net to stay safe if you go over 70lb you are disqualified, losing all nets. About thirty minutes from the end there was a bit of commotion from tylers peg, his 4 and 5 section slipped in, and trying to stop them.he fell in 😅 but it was all ok as he retrieved his sections and even managed to get his i phone from the lake bed, and it seemed ok as it was still playing the same music before it went in, whether its still going in the morning will have to be confirmed.
As expected niel mercer won from 135 with over 300lb, so well done, and chris fox won the silvers from 126 with 42lb of skimmers,
Landsend fishery tomorrow for the gary wall memorial match, still a few.places.left, so msg me or mike at the fishery, or just be there before 9am ,draw time.

This week

Went to ivy house on sunday with chris fox,2 matches to choose from, one on the fish race lake and the other one on the canals, i chose the latter, but before the draw we had time for one of karens breakfast rolls, and it was very nice, andy and karen have done a lot of work on the fishery and it all looks very good, so well done. andy did the social distancing draw and i ended up with peg 40, a good draw , only 13 mtrs wide with a few.reeds.opposite and an overhanging tree. Nice to have the nets supplied and waiting for you at yoir peg.
I have have had a bit of a bad day , been beaten iether side , ellick to my left had fished the methid feeder for the biggest part and had 120lb, and andy lord to my right had 85ish, me, well i had 69lb for no where, started.well with a few.carp down the middle on pellet, some across by the reeds also on pellet, then a few.down the margin on corn over caster, a few.fish so still enjoyable,
Thursday and it was back to huntstrete for the coffin dodgers (am i allowed to say that in these pc lucrative times), dave Gillard again did the distancing draw and pulled out peg 15 for me, no complaints from me, a good silvers and carp peg, i had chris ollis on my left ,peg 16 (again), and dave poole to my right, as its the same payout for first overall or silvers i decided have a silvers day, but i did set a rig for pellet across to the island at 16 mtrs, but i was going to fish for skimmers at topset and two distance, last match i was on 14 and had 42lb of silvers mainly shallow at the same distance, but today it looked different, last match there were loads of fizzes all round the lake but today it lokked a bit lifeless with no bubbles, but i set up a a shallow rig and a depth rig for the short line, no pictures today as i poured down all match, luckily no wind, so Brolly straight up , nice and dry all day. At the start i fed a couple of balls of groundbait then began loosefeeding caster over the top. Last match was really good fishing shallow, this week it never happened, only Had one skimmer, the rest was my least favourite fish of all time , micro rudd, aaaargh, so i spent most of the match fishing on the deck, catchimg small skimmers with the occasional better sample, i did try the island on pellet, first drop an f1, next put in a 4lb carp, went back to the skimmers before trying it a bit later, hooked another carp which did me in the brambles on the end of the isalnd, end of rig , end of island fishing. I did feed a few casters.down the margin and had an f1and a six pound carp, i thought i had done enough to win the silvers, the only other person having some silvers was kev winstone on peg 27, but i thought i had done enough to beat him. My silvers went 27.14 which was enough to win the silvers on the day, kev wa ssecond in silvers with 22lb, top weight on the day was taken by paul barnfield who managed.to moan 75lb onto the scales from unfancied (according to paul) peg 18, well.done matey. As.normal.sheets below.
Teo matches this weekend, Sunday a short pole match on Campbell at viaduct , then monday the gary wall memorial match at Landsend fishery, contact myself or mike duckett to book in.

Finally got round to it

Last Thursday it was the huntstrete coffin dodgers on bridge pool, as this blog is so late I will keep it very short .draw bag Dave Gillard pulled out peg 14 for me, good silvers area and a lot of f1,s frequent the island, unfortunately it's a full 18mtrs to reach it, so I decided to drop short at 16mtrs and try and catch shallow on pellet, but I was going to hopefully do that towards the end of the match as I fancied some silvers fishing, and with the payout the same for overall and silvers it's always the anglers choice as what he fancies on the day, so I set up a deep rig for topset and two, and a caster.rig for each side margin in 3 foot, for company I had Mike nicholls to my left who was going to target carp, and Dave "diddly bonk" haines to my right who was going to silver bash.

At the start I cupped in a couple of balls of groundbait on the short line, fired some pellet across towards the island, and fed caster into each side margin, starting in caster short I had a couple of skimmers, then I struggled to get my rig to settle as small roach became a nuisance, Mike to my left was doing well on his paste rig so even this early he was looking favourite to win.

I thought I would try shallow with the margin caster rig, and I've had a good few hours fishing on that, catching some.nice skimmers with lots of small roach, I fed caster quite aggressively, if I eased up the roach became a nuisance, so I kept up with the heavy feeding, I ran out of caster with 90minutes to go and the skimmers disappeared, so the last 90minutes I went over to the island in banded.pellet, and had a few.f1,s, never enough to win overall on the day as Mike had nearly 140lb, but I did have 40+ of silvers and mud 20,s of f1,s , which we enough to win the silvers and come second on the day, so a nice days fishing and a few.quid aswell.

Weigh sheets below as normal.

This weeks results

Again I've got two reports to do, I must try and do them after each event, but it's finding the time to be honest.

So firstly down to Shiplate for neds Thursday costcutter rip off, sad news from the fishery, it's up for sale, house lakes the lot, I hope whoever buys it keeps it as a fishery as it's lovely fishing in lovely surroundings, I did rush home and check mine and Judith savings but we fell woefully short of the 1.89 mill required, lol.

Anyway into the draw and out comes peg 4, so it was going to be a silvers day with a chance of a few carp,

hopefully down to the right by the bush, on meat so I set up a rig for that.

The other rigs were one for on the deck and another to fish shallow at 13mtrs, and the other was for skimmers on hard pellet at 5mtrs which was at the bottom of the near shelf. On the whistle I fed all lines and started on the short pellet line, I was soon catching some nice skimmers, and it lasted for about two hours then stopped abruptly, and it seemed to be the same for everyone, so the last four hours were spent chasing carp , I had a few shallow, some on the deck and three down by the bush, the scales.arrived quite quickly and it was no surprise to find titch Williams had over 220 lb from titch,s corner , peg 1, my.skimmers went 37lb which was the top silver weight on the day, and my carp went 110lb, so a 147lb total, which was third in the day, Gary (ned) flinders beat me by about a pound from 14b, weigh sheet below.
Sunday and it was down to Todber for a short pole match on ash and homeground, kev winstone drew my normal flyer in the shape of 75 on ash, shame you can't draw that well for yourself.

it's the end peg at the far end. I'm not going to say to much, I've had a nice day ended up with 205lb for 4th on the lake, Martin rayet on peg 72 with over 240lb and top silver,s weight went to Ryan shipp on 70 with 35lb, too on homeground was Clayton Hudson on 83 with 260lb+ followed by Gary Bowden on 76 with over 200lb which was a best for him, it was a good day in good company with nice weather, weigh sheets below.

Looking forward to tomorrow, off the beer with the boss, (colin) for a bit of sea fishing in the self drives off the beach, the forecast looks good with an outside chance of a thunder storm, we will have to wait and see with that as these storms can easily miss us altogether.

Sunday 2 August 2020

Thursday and sunday

Firstly back to huntstrete on Thursday for the fortnightly coffin dodgers match, I was hoping for a peg away from the roadside , and I got my wish as Dave Gillard pulled me out peg 18, I like the peg but due to numbers peg 17 was in, and I always feel a bit cut off in this bay, but still plenty of options , a bush to my left, and a long margin to my right going into the corner of the lake, I've had a bit of a non event day to be fair, started in front of the bush in 7 foot of water on hard 6,s over 4,s, I had a few roach ,skimmers and small tench but it soon dried up, so I came down the left hand side to the bush, had a 5lb carp and lost a couple , so down the right and had some f1,s and a couple of small carp, I also lost a few around the "fish refuge", basically it's a horrible snag which the carp take great delight in going around when hooked , there is also one in peg 19, I don't really see as they serve any purpose apart from potentially damaging fish and losing anglers tackle in, it was a hot day and I was suffering a bit by the end, to hit for me, Mike nicholls fished his paste approach, which he does well and won easily on a difficult day with 56lb, second went to Paul barnfield on peg one with 38lb.Top silvers.weight was dave(diddlybonk) haines on peg 28 with 29lb, caster on his topkit, as he does, well done, weigh sheets below.

Today it was down to Landsend fishery for a float only match from my cancelled league, forty spread over three lakes, I let kev winstone draw for me , he gave me 58, lovely, my favourite peg on lake three, then promptly drew 46 for himself, not so good it has to be said, poor old kev he is having a bit of a hard time lately, struggling to catch, but I think I know why, he dropped his glasses in the car park after the match, and I got to say I don't think his eyesight is good enough to see out of these.
My swim looked good as normal,

the water levels are well down meaning I only had 2 foot at the deepest part of the swim, and that was up to my right at 14 mtrs by the banker part of the swim which is by a large weedbed, so I set up to fish on the deck out by the island and with alright adjustment would do for up by the weedbed, a margin rig, a meat rig, and a mugger, as there were a few fish about , opposite I had Ryan Jordan on 55, so I could keep an eye on the quid side bet, again I've had another day which doesn't take to much explaining, no bites on the meat line, none in the margin, one bite at depth from the island, one bite up by the weedbed, all my other fish came on the mugger rig, but it wasn't easy , enough fish about to have a good weight but the fish had other ideas, it was a day for persevering, covered loads of fish but only odd fish had a go, I managed to annoy enough the win the lake with 88lb, but that was only worth a section win as the other lakes had bigger.weights, Paul elmes on peg 11 won with 140lb+, then Anton page on 3 was second with 133+, followed by Vince shipp on peg 31 , also with over 130lb, so it fished ok, with no one running away with it, and chatting to Gary Anderson and his fishery boss there are.plenty of plans in the pipeline to improve the fishery, obviously these things aren't going to happen overnight , so be a bit patient as improvement,s are on the way, weigh sheets below.
