avalon weds

not many anglers seem to be venturing out at the moment, probably due to the shitty weather, so with a strong westerly wind forcast we decided to use the left hand bank as this would give us a wind off our backs, shame no one told the wind as it turned into a strong south westerly blowing off our right shoulder and up the lake making pole fishing difficult.
after the stormy weather of the last week the lake had that milky grey which the fish dont seem to like, fabio drew for me and handed me peg 20 which was the end peg today, for company i had martin lenaghan on 19, my peg does have a small gap in the island which in warmer weather is good as the fish are always swimming through so as there is 3 to 4 foot of water in the gap i set up a wag for banded pellet but i couldnt get it to stay any where near the far bank as the wind blew it straight out(should have set the lead rod up but once a year for that is enough).
i set up one rig a 4x14 impact 6 with an 18 middy 6313 on .10 on the end to fish dead maggot/caster and soft pellet, at the start i cupped in 3 balls of g bait at 13mtrs and 4 at 16 mtrs with a few casters dead mags and micro,s in it and some soaked micro,s at 16 mtrs at 11 and 1 o,clock, starting at 13 mtrs with maggot on the hook it took 30 mins to get a bite and that resulted with a small skimmer, by now martin had caught a carp on the wag and hard pellet on the deck letting his float blow in against the end of the island but bites were slow on that so i think he decided to bolster his weight with a few squirrels as he threw his wag into the top of the overhanging tree then moaning as he lost the only waggler he had with him, who goes to a wag venue with only one wag!!!! . only an habitual lead slinger as far as i can see, i would like to say i took skimmers for the rest of the match but it wasnt to be,the 16 mtr lines were all but devoid of fish with me only getting 3 small skimmers off that line , i think presentation was the issue on those lines as the trip was going with the wind blowwing the rig across the bait to fast whereas at 13 mtrs the trip was going back against the wind so 95% of my weight came from this line . judging by the talking on the bank it was fishing very hard with only vince(slinger)brown having any success on peg 7 catching a few small carp on the tip on soft pellet or banded pellet , by the end he had 9 carp for an easy win with 37.11
2nd was martin lenaghan with 4 carp and 2 squirrels for 16.6 peg 19
3rd ed wynne 8.11 of silvers on peg 9
4th me 8.4 peg 20
5th tim clark 7.5 peg 5
6th leon hubbard 7lb peg 16
this has always been a venue where rain and strong winds affect catches as the bottom seems to kick up a grey suspension which the fish definately dont like, small roach are usually a problem here but today there were even unwilling to feed, so any small fish caught were skimmers

avalon silvers match weds 21st

i was suprised how popular this turned out to be as 16 booked in , with this venue it is nearly impossible to predict where its going to be won from especially in a silvers match. basically we used every other peg so we were on pegs 1 to 32, i didnt fancy any of the the three pegs on the right as the wind would be into you ,so i was pleased when fabio drew peg 9 for me and its a peg with some good silvers form, but then again all the swims seem able to throw up silvers, for company i had john(the gimp)bradford on 7 and ex bank manager and now bristols finest rock guitar pensioner and karaoke star jim baines on 9, after sundays match i decided on a mainly groundbait attack and fish dead maggotes over it , so i set up the .5grm rig with an 18 middy 6313 hook and a 4x14 rig for the margins to fish caster with the same hook but on .12 but i only had 1 bite on that which came from a small roach so that was a waste of time and wont be mentioned again, at the start i cupped in 3 balls of g bait at 13 nand 16 mtrs and some softened micro,s at 16 mtrs at 11 o,clock angle whilst the g bait was towards 1 o,clock.
starting at 13 mtrs over g bait with double maggot it took about 15 mins to get a bite which came from a small skimmer which i dropped off trying to swing, a few small roach followed in the next 45 mins but that line seemed to be going nowhere fast so i swiched to the 16 mtr line and had 3 good skimmers in 3 put ins before that line died so i refed both lines with another ball of g bait with a few dead mags and casters and had a look over the micro line but never had a bite so it was back over the g bait , jim was really struggleing only getting the odd bite , but he was only fishing at 13 mtrs and for some reason the fish dont seem to like coming to close so 16 mtrs seems to produce more fish, the gimp had started well but again only fishing at 13 mtrs gave him an early burst but his swim died after a couple of hours , it wasnt hectic sport but by switching between the 13 and 16 mtr line i had small roach and od goob skimmers up until the end and i thought i had about 16lb but it wasnt going to be enough as alan oram on peg 17 weighed in 24.01 of silvers mainly skimmers and one tench on maggot over micro,s(why couldnt i get a bite on that)he also had 35.2 of carp but they didnt count as it was silvers only
2nd was me with 18.4 on peg 9
3rd was nigel bartlell on 13 with 13.6
4th chris davis 10.11 on peg 30
5th stu foale 9.7 peg 26
6th ken rayner 9.3 peg 12
the token carp payout went to mike west with 13.5 on peg 20

avalon xmas match

with 37 fishing today it was going to be a friendly affair, and everyone had an island or a corner to fish to and with that many pegs in the fish wouldnt have to many places to hide(hopefully), as i was holding the draw tin i let the bridgwater male model(vince brown)draw for me, so he handed me 28 which is halfway up the last island on the right hand side and kept 19 for himself. for company i had the chipping sodbury bit basher (chris derrick)on 29 and andy(the jacket)gurd on 27. now chris was always going to target the silvers as there was 65 quid and a hamper up for grabs whereas andy was going to be maily lead slinging as he is having trouble with his neck and is having problems holding a long pole , these pegs although throwing up accasional weights of carp(moreso in the summer)have more form for skimmers so i thought silvers would give me my best chance of a pick up, i only set up one pole rig which was a .5 grm rig with a 18 middy 6313 on .10 to use at 13 mtrs with maggot over groundait and the same rig would do for 2 lines at 16 mtrs at 11 and 1 o,clock angles, i also set up a wag rig to fish at depth with hard pellet but after several tries during the match it was a non starter as the facing wind blew it off the island quite quickly so i wont mention it again as i never even looked as though i was going to get a bite on it.
at the start i cupped in 2 balls of g bait with some casters at 13 mtrs and some soaked micro,s on the 2 lines at 16 mtrs, starting on double maggot at 13 mtrs i was soon getting bites off small roach as was chris next door and fabio on 30, it wasnt long before andy on 27 got caught by a carp on his lead rod and then les the chub williams lasooed one in the tail. i persvered with the 13 mtr line catching small roach then about 2 hours in i had a 3lb bream which kept me ahead of the silver anglers i could see, i kept trying the 16 mtr lines with maggot and soft pellet over the micro,s but all i had was a few small roach on maggot with no bites on the pellet at all i kept getting odd roach at 13 mtrs and no response at 16 mtrs so with about 1 hour to go i made 2 balls of g bait out of my remaining mix and put a ball into each line at 16 mtrs the 1 o,clock line onle gave me a couple of small roach but the 11 line gave me 3 skimmers for about 2 1/4 lb so by the end i new i had over 6lb but i was surprised to put 9lb of silvers on the scales to win the silvers so i went home with 65 quid and a second hamper in as many weeks.
first on the day went to vince brown with 48.4 of lead caught carp off peg 19 , he also took home £65 plus a 22 inch hd tv
2nd andy gurd on 27 with 15.8
3rd darren north 14.1 on peg 10
4th shane caswell 13.4 peg 24
5th chris fox 11.11 peg 48
6th john bradford 11.8 peg 9
silvers me 9lb
after the match we were treated to home made vegetable soup with crusty bread followed up with heathers home made mince pies, thanks to her and vic for a nice match it was just a shame the fish decided to shut up shop for the day probably down to the frost and several inches of fresh cold water being dumped in there

avalon weds

13 fished today so we used the left hand bank which was good as there were strong westerly winds forcast so we had it off our backs, i let fabio draw for me and he handed me peg 7 which is the last peg on the first island a swim which can produce silvers aswell as carp, i was sat in a tom sandwich today with tom thick on my right still smelling of scopex which he pumps his expanders with and tom mangnol on my left who was setting about assembling his array of feeder rods.i set up one pole rig today ,a4x14 impact 6 with a 16 6313 on .12 to fish soft pellet over micro,s , and a wag rod for pellet at depth towards the end of the island but the wind was blowing the float off the island and after a couple of tries during the match it wasnt right so i wont mention that again, a lead rod would have been ok but i left that to mr mangnol, a quick look on tom thicks peg revealed just one rig ,a 4x12 float which some think may be a bit light for 7 foot of water on a windy day but tom makes it work for him .
at the start i cupped in some soaked micro,s at 14 mts at 11 and 1 o,clock, 30 mins and niether tom thick or me had had a bite, so i took the 16 off and put an 18 on instead, by now tom mangnol had a 10 pounder and a couple of skimmers on the lead and corn at the island, both tom thick and me both had our first bite after about 45 mins tom had a good skimmer whilst mine was about 4oz(the writing was on the wall)and thats how the rest of my match was spent . on the pole with iether soft pellet or double maggot , i did go to 16 mtrs and i did catch a couple of carp there but the bulk of my fish came from the 14 mtr line, both tom thick and me ended up with 6 carp plus skimmers except tom thought he had over 20lb of silvers whereas i thought mine would go about 10lb, and as for mr mangnol i can see now why he sets up so many lead rods, its because he seems to use tree magnets instead of leads lol.
as i said the writing was on the wall early on and as expected ton thick came first with 60.3 which also included the top silvers weight of 22.6
2nd was me with 46.9 10.7 of silvers and 36.2 of carp
3rd alan oram managed to moan 6 carp and some skimmers on at peg 23 which went 33.2
4th mike west 27.2 peg 22
5th sean kitteridge 23.4 peg 3
6th mr feeder himself tom mangnol with boring days sport which went 18.10
any one interested there are still a few spaces left for the avalon xmas match on the 18th december book in with me on 01179517250

weds at avalon

14 of us here today so we used a bank and a bit so plenty of room, i let roger andoniou draw for me again as he tends to draw fliers, its good to see some old boys out and about ,probably due to the nice weather innit rog. anyway his drawing arm was still ok as he drew 11 for me which is just on the gap in the second island, its a good wag peg aswell as pole so i set up 2 wag rods ,one for shallow and one for on the deck both with b960 size 16,s to .16 for banded 8mm, and with the weather still mild i fully excpected to get some shallow(wrong) and 1 pole rig which was a 4x14 impact 6 with an 18 b960 on .14 again for banded pellet but 6,s over hard 4,s, the islands do need a bit of a tidy up but then again with no one fishing tight in the fish seem to be coming off which makes it easier for everyone, but then again vic couldnt clean the islands as liegh must be applying for planning to turn the speci and syndicate lakes into marina,s as the boats are all on those 2 lakes(lol). for company i had tom thick on 9 so i had to put up with the sickly sweet smell of scopex mixed with the not quite so nice aroma of bullshit from him , and kev molton on 13 who didnt really speak all day, probably due to the fact that i couldnt see who it was there and i thought it was ray white so kev wasnt answering to the name ray.
starting at 16 mtrs with banded 6 over 4,s i hooked my first carp after a couple of minutes and i soon had a nice 9lb common in the net then next drop i had a 4lb bream, after the first hour i had 3 carp and the bream and i had missed a few bites , by now tom was catching skimmers on his soft pellet and micro approach and kev/ray had had 3 carp as well on banded pellet and i couldnt see anyone else due to the bankside growth, my swim seemed to be going quiet so i did my normal thing and upped the feed and things went from bad to worse with no bites , and when i did it was a fouler. about halfway through i left the pole swim and tried the shallow wag , i missed a bite first chuck then hooked one next put in which came adrift halfway back and that was the end of any bites on that , mainly due to the skimmy wind that started and was pushing the float through i tried the deep wag but that was hard to control so i shelved that for now and went back on the pole where i had a couplke more carp and skimmers but no where neat enough to worry tom as he was feeding skimmers and the odd carp into his net the whole time i did get three carp in the last hour on the deep wag rig but tit was to little to late as i ended up with 52.7 for 4th and no coin, first on the day went to craig(trig)edmunds on 19 with 90.6 with his fish being taken on both pole and shallow wag to the island
2nd was tom thick with 69.2 which included top silver weight of 39.15 on peg 9
3rd kev/ray molten 53.4 peg 13
4th tony (chip shop sausage)rixon 52.7
5th john(turkey)thompson 32.12 peg 3
6th martin(drive)lenaghan 24.9 peg 24
silver by default went to nigel bartlett on 27 with 24.4 of skimmers
hopefully we wil get a few more for the next weds in a couple of weeks as its a good venue where different pegs win each time and i dont think liegh will be succesful with the marina application

weds at avalon

only 13 turned out today so we spread out on the far bank so plenty of room, roger andoniou was here again today and he normally draws crap for me so i was going to get someone else to draw for me but he beat everyone else into the hat(its supriseing how fast a pensioner with a bad back can move when he chooses)and handed me a peg which i was a bit reluctant to open but i did and there was number 24 looking at me which to all who know the venue will recognise it as proper flier(cheers rog) and its got an added bonus of having a 10mtr walk from the top carpark, so after wheeling(not to lazy then lol)my kit to the peg i set about tackling up, there is a big tree in the corner which looks very inviting but it pays to ignore that as its a rig graveyard with the carp getting into the branches ussually before you can react, the safest option is to go 14-15mtrs to the reeds on the end bank so i set up a 4x14 rig with a 16 b960 for banded pellet there and a 4x16 for straight out at 14mtrs for corn over 3mm pellet with a 18 8313 hook on .14.
after feeding both lines at the start i began on corn straight out in front and hooked a skimmer first drop which fell off on the way back, oh well, 10 mins later i was slipping the net under a nice looking full linear of 8-9lb, i stuck with this line for 90 mins and added some more skimmers to the net, after that most of the match was spent fishing to the reeds with banded 8mm as there seemed to be plenty of fish in the area but they were on the small side, as far as the rest of the anglers were getting on , i didnt have a clue as the lake is probably over 250mtrs long with plenty of trees on the bank so apart from roger andoniou on 27 i didnt see much and roger was catching a few on the straight lead over to the island on hair rigged 10mm pellet.
by the end i had 22 carp and 9 skimmers for 80lb ish i was only 20lb out as my catch went 99.4 which was enough for first on the day
2nd went to roger andoniou with 73.7 on peg 27
3rd phil(lets go quick before liegh turns up)harding with 68.14 on peg 35 fishing pellet on the shallow wag
4th tom thick on peg 40 with 60.7 which included top silver of 46lb of skimmers all taken on soft pellet at 14mtrs
5th ray white 55lb peg 38
6th craig(chip shop sausage)edmunds 45.2 on peg 37

avalon open sunday

this is one of my real favourite venues as it is impossible to predict as to where the winner will come from, and today was going to be no different
normally any sort of method feeder with a short hooklength isnt allowed on this venue but vic agreed to let us use 3 inch hooklength,s as an experiment shame he didnt tell leigh before the day, but then again at least it gave liegh something(else lol)to moan about, i let the oldest angler on the bank in the shape of mike west draw for me and he handed me 27 not a peg or area i really like as its the widest pegs on the lake making wag fishing hard especcially with the wind blowing in and across, its a good 40 mtr chuck and with the awkward wind even 8,s were going to be hard to get over, but i set up the shallow wag anyway, i had half an inkling to target the silvers so i set a .75grm rig for 13 mtrs to fish caster over g bait with an 18 6313 on .12. i also set up a 4x16 on .14 with a 16 8313 for corn over micro,s at 16 mtrs.
at the start i cupped in 6 balls at 13 mtrs , a decent ammount of micro,s and corn at 16 mtrs and began firing some 8,s towards the island, starting at 13 with single caster i had a few bites and a some small roach and 1 skimmer in the first hour , but there were some bubbles coming up on the 16 mtr line so i went out with a piece of corn on, and i was soon into a decent carp which i got to my topset where it swirled and came off, bugger , i refed a bit more and came back on the 13 mtr line but it was no better with only more small roach, by now the method slingers were catching with dean on 22 making a lot of noise casting the banjo method to the island and splashing carp into his net ,also tom mangnal on 14 was catching on a mixture of method, lead and wag, so i went out on the corn line again and in the next hour i had 2 carp and a skimmer , even though there were signs of fish on this line i wasnt getting a bite , in hindsight(there,s that word again)i think paste would have been the answer, but i never set a rig up for that so it wasnt.
i fished the wag for the remainder of the match(about 3 hours)and managed another 8 carp with fish to 10lb down to 3lb, i thought i had about 55lb but i thought i would be miles off the pace as tom had 16 carp, dean was admitting to 18 small ones (ye right) martin mcmahon had 16(all method chuckers)
as it turned out martin mcmahon on peg 38 won with 76.01 on the feeder
2nd dean malin 71.12 peg 22 on the feeder
3rd tom mangnal 70lb peg 14 on a variety of methods
4th t rixon 64.8 peg 27
5th steve seager 62.10 peg 32 paste
6th ray cooper 47.13 peg 29 feeder
silvers went to shane caswell with 17.3 of skimmers taken on worm on peg 9

avalon open

a good turnout today with 34 booked in but with tom thick unable to get a lift we had to make do with 33, so we used the whole lake, with the weather forcast giving a dry day and westerly winds of up to 12mph it all looked good , then the wind started blowing at about 25 mph making a draw on the left hand bank looking good as the wind would be off your back, with fabio,s drawing arm being on song i let him draw for me, oh well it had to come to an end sooner or later as he drew 21 for me which is on the left hand bank(wind of my back again)facing the middle of the top island, i had tom mangnall to my right on 20 which is a good peg as there is a small gap in the island which always holds some fish , and alan oram on the left who would cut off any fish coming from that end of the island, so i couldnt see me getting much of a return from this swim.
i set up a meat rig for the right hand margin as it has a bit of form down by the reeds, a .5 rig to use at 13 mtrs with soft pellet or mags over micro,s and a 4x14 for banded pellet at 16 mtrs plus the mandatory pelletwag for this venue.
at the start i cupped in some micro,s at 13 ,some 6,s at 16, fired some 6,s to the island and began plopping some meat down to the reeds.
begginning at 13 mtrs with soft pellet i never had a bite , a switch to mags on the hook produces a couple of small rudd on the drop but i never had a bite on the deck there, so after 20 mins it was out to 16 mtrs but with no bubbles coming up i wasnt confident, and with tom on 20 already having a couple of small carp in the net my pound was looking dodgy. on the hour mark i finally had a proper bite which ended up with a 6 pounder gracing the net then i had 3 good skimmers in the next 30 mins, and that was my lot on the pole plus i never had a bite down down the edge , but as the reeds werent knocking i didnt pay it to much attention. the rest of the match was spent on the wag but ecven that was hard as there didnt appear to be enough fish there to make them compete , you could see the odd fish slurping off the island most of the match but they are hard to tempt when they are doing this, plus the fishery could do with a bit of a trim as there are lots of branches and reeds on the islands making it difficult to get tight. i managed 8or9 smallish carp on the wag but it was hard as the wind although being off my back it tended to swirl a bit as it hit the island and came back but it was no where near as difficult as must have been for those opposite, my 3 skimmers went 6lb and with my 9ish carp i had a total of 38.14 for nothing today, i did lose 4 fish on the wag which any one would have given me the section but adrian jeffery won the section with 40.2 which is good to see as its nice to see anglers of his advanced age still being able to do a bit.
any way back to the full result tim ford on 26 won with 61.14 taking 90% of his catch in the last couple of hours on the pole using banded 8,s feeding 6,s and catching at full depth (i think)and it was good to see a thatchers angler fishing properly and not chucking the method
2nd went to phil (fabio)harding with 59.9 on 26 which is a good result off that peg as its not the best
3rd tom mangnall on 2o with 53.8 who i think would have probably won if he hadnt spent most of the day telling his girlfriend he loved her(sickening to listen to)or throwing all his kit up and i mean up the trees on the island
4th dave roper on 7 with 53.7
5th nick collins peg 3 51lb
6th adrian jeffery peg 29 with 40.2
silvers went to john(the gimp)bradford on peg 48 with 23.4 of skimmers tench and chub on worm at 13mtrs
off to landsend on weds for a topset plus one match which should be interesting and on sunday its off to chilton trinity on wildmarsh for a float only match so if ant one is interested in either ring me at the shop on 01179517250 to book in

avalon sunday open

18 fishing today and with most of the ice gone on the high numbers and a bit of minimal breaking needed on selected peg on the low numbers which was easily done by andy bush and paul elmes in a boat it made a nice change not to have to sling 10lb of steel around before we could fish. i let fabio draw for me and he pulled 25 which is probably the peg with the least ammount of form in the draw bag today, it should be ok as its on the end of an island, so a wag to fish at depth at 40 mtrs with banded pellet was assembled and two 4x16 rigs ,one with a 20 6313 on .10 for 13 mtrs over g bait and one with a 18 6313 on .12 for 16 mtrs with various baits over softened micro,s.
at the start i cupped in 2 balls of dark g bait at 13 mtrs with a few casters in and about 100 micro,s(no i didnt count them it was a guess)at 16 mtrs and fired 4 8mm pellets to the island, starting at 13 mtrs i missed a bite on maggot after 10 mins, but had small roach next drop, but it was a bit slow and after the first hour i only had 6 small roach to show for my efforts, so i fed another small of g bait and had a look at the 16 mtr line ,but couldnt raise a bite on any bait i had so it was back to the 13 mtr line. dave hodgson on 24 had a carp first put in down his margin but apart from some small roach that was the only carp he had all day. vince brown on 30 had a couple of 12 oz skimmers fishing 20 mtrs (thats 4 poles to mike nicholls), also the inform martin mcmahon had taken a couple of small carp on the feeder on peg 32 and apart from an odd small carp here and there it was fishing as hard as expected but with a water temp of 2c rising to 3c during the day you cant really blame the fish for not wanting to feed, i could get regular bites over the g bait from small roach and rudd but there was no quality, i did manage 2 10oz skimmers one over the pellet line and one ovber the g bait and i lost a small carp over the pellet line , i also had a couple of small indications over on the wag but after losiong 2 floats on the island i gave that up as a bad job, so saw the rest of the match out getting small roach over the g bait and pellet lines. by the end martin mcmahon had taken 15 small carp on the feeded fishing 5 mags on a 14 with a small g bait feeder about 1 mtr off the island on peg 32 for a weight of 21.8 and first on the day
2nd went to alan healey on 42 with 9.11
3rd tim ford 7.7 peg 37
4th dean malin 6.10 peg 44
5th alan oram 5.14 peg 35
6th tony rixon 4.12 which was the top silver weight on the day wit vince brown coming second in the silvers with 4.9 and ed wynne with 4.7 for 3rd
there isd a match at chilton trinity on weds 9 am draw ring me at the shop on 01179517250 to book in

avalon sunday open

i let dean draw for me today, and he gave me 39, which aint to bad. the good thing about this venue is that you never know where the winner is going to come from. its not like draweing 19 at landsend is it shrimpy, oh i forgot you never won yesterday did you lol .
back to my swim , i set up a paste rig anb a hard pellet rig to fish at 14 mtrs, a corn rig to fish down the edge(never had a bite on that), and a shallow and a deep wag rig for pellet, at the start i cupped some 4,s at 14 mtrs fired some 6,s towards the island and put some 4, s and corn down the margin. beginning on pellet at 14 mtrs the first hour was crap, with only a lost fouler and a skimmer to show for my efforts, a switch to corn on the hook produced 2 carp an 2 skimmers in the next 45 minutes, nick plip plop davidson from keynsham had taken a coupl;e of early fish on the lead on 38 , while clayton hudson on 37 had begun to get bites on the pellet wag, so i followed suite , and was soon getting indications, but the nasty side wind blowing right to left was making it hard as the float was getting pushed through to fast, so if i never had a bite within a few seconds of the float landing it was a waste to leave it any longer so it was wind in feed and cast again, the only person i could see catching was jamie dyte on 42 who was catching on paste at 14 mtrs. i did try the solvite rig but to no avail, it wasnt that i wasnt getting bites it was gettiong annoyed with the fact that i was missing bites, i really must get it sorted before next summer. the deep wag was never going to work as it was blowing through worse than the shallow wag so that was consigned to the bushes , so most of the remainder of the match was spent on the shallow wag, ending the match with 14 carp plus a few bits and bobs i thought i had about 80 lb.
jamie dyte on 42 won with 127.9 mainly on paste but he did get a few on meat
2nd was me with 92.10
3rd went to clayton hudson with 72.2 on peg 37
4th alan oram 65.13 peg 19
5th tony page 65.6 peg 24
6th dean malin 65.4 and he also won the silvers with 11.5 of skimmers on corn on peg 27

i dont understand why people dont want to go to this venue as its probably one of the fairest commercials in the area as its impossible to predict where the winner is likely to come from , perhaps its the thought of having to think about it to much, and the people who moan the most are the ones who never go there , any way thats the moaning out the way .
after a redraw cos i miss counted i ended up on 13 which is at the end of the second island, for company i had dean malin on my right who was going to fish the feeder to the island , but i cant do thast so i set up a margin rig for corn , a banded pellet rig(4x16) and a paste(yes paste)rig to fish at 14 mtrs , and a wag rig to fish at depth to the island with banded pellet.
at the start i cupped in some corn and 4mm down the margin , some 4,s at 14 mtrs and began firing 6,s to the island, starting on a banded 6 at 14 mtrs the first 30 mins nearly went to plan i had 2 skimmers and hooked 3 carp , one was fouled and came off , one fought like a bream and came off at the net and the other went under the platform and broke me, i did mamage another couple of carp in the next 30 mins , but by now i think dean had 6 carp on the feeder so i was falling behind, a quick look on the p[aste over the same line resulted in about 6 unmissable bites in about as many put ins but i missed them all, a quick look back on the pellet resulted in 2 more carp and a couple of lost foulers, so i refed the pole line and picked up the wag rod, and i soon started getting bites and catching the odd carp and i slowly started to claw back deans early lead apart from a look down the edge which resulted in a 2lb skimmer and a couple of late fish on paste , i stuck with the wag for most of the match and to be honest i was probably beating dean with 20 mins to go , then he went and caught 6 in as many put ins with a 9lb fish last chuck which is what he ended up beating me by , as he was first on the day with 131.14 on peg 11
2nd tony rixon 122.14 peg 13
3rd jamie dyte 104.9 peg 1
4th phil harding 96.3 p[eg 5
5th tim(i,ve lost 30 again)clark 94.13 peg 20
6th nick(plip plop)davidson 78.14 peg 9
silvers went to kev(bagger)davies with 26lb on peg 19 mainly skimmers on corn over micro,s

avalon practice

only 20 booked in today, obviously the teams of 4 anglers feel they now the venue well enough. its a shame really as it fished well and was a very fair match with fish feeding all round and no real hot areas.
i ended up on 37 which is on the right hand side of the gap on the second island i had venue co owner vic bush for company on 38. my peg has a bit of form as a good silvers peg as well as being a good carp peg so i was spoilt for choice as what to do.
i ended up putting 6 balls of g bait at 13 mtrs with some caster in it and some soaked micros and 3,s at 16 mtrs, and i fired some 8,s to the island for the shallow wag, but it never really happened as it took me 30 mins to get a bite over the 13 mtr line and that was a 8oz skimmer folowed by a few small roach all on maggot, so i cupped in some more micros at 16 and picked up the wag rod , although there were fish showing against the island it was a struggle to keep the float tight enough as the wind kept blowing it off and back towards me , i did manage 2 carp on the wag and lost a couple during the match ,in hindsight i should have set up a depth wag or a feeder but as we know hindsight is a wonderful thing, i did manage 2 more carp on the pole plus a few more skimmers on soft pellet over micros plus some small carp of under a pound and these count as silvers as they are to small to put in with there bigger brothers, in the end my 4 carp and silvers went 30.9 for absolutely no good what so ever, so i,m back there again on wednesday to try and sort a few things out,as will chris fox who was on 32 and lost about the same number of carp, ok it was only about 20 lol.
first on the day went to pete wild on 20 with 105.7 all taken on a method feeder with a snowman rig.
2nd was dean malin with 78.12 on peg 7 .now that dynamite have been taken over by rapala bean used a new bait today , it was a 4 inch hair rigged mangum but he had to change the trebles for a single size 14 tubertini 175
3rd c hudson on peg 1 with 75.11
4th paul elmes 73.8 peg 12
5th ben hagg 62.2 peg 13
6th martin lenaghan 61 peg 24 (he keeps doing well off bad pegs)
silvers were won by steve seager on 19 with 16.12 of skimmers with punched marshmallows over jelly tots doin the biz
the truth is out there
but seriously pete wild caught on a method feeder with a 12 inch hooklength and hair rigged pellet(may as well use an ordinary feeder pete)
and dean fished a cage feeder with maggot on the hook, silvers winner steve caught on soft pellet

avalon practice match

with rnd 5 of the float only league next sunday there was a practice match this week. with 26 booked in and with 1 to 40 pegs being used we all had a bit of room. dean drew for me and handed me 12, great, same peg as last time and it is turning into one of those pegs you seem to draw on a regular basis , cos i had it last week aswell. two wag rods today ,one up and one down, and 3 pole rigs ,one for pellet shallow (never used)pellet on the deck and a paste rig(christ i will be buying a new lead rod at this rate).for company i had roger andoniou on 13 and glen welch on 11, and opposite i had to look at vic bush who has now bacome a method chucker, i can remember him being a fine exponent of float fishing but the years must be catching up with him as he seems to spend a lot of his time on the feeder now.
at the start i cupped in half a pot of 6,s at 16 mtrs and began firing 8,s to the island, it took 5 mins to get my first carp on banded 8 mill, then i had a run of skimmers on the pellet plus i lost a couple of foulers, so an hour in it was out wth the paste rig and a carp took it on the drop, i had 5 in the next hour before it went a bit quite , so i put in half a pot of 6,s and had a look on the shallow wag. it took about 15 mins to get a carp on that ,i kept altering the depth but the fish didnt really seem to interestd in that ,so it was back on the paste ,i did try the pellet from time to time but all i had to show were a few scales ,so it was a paste day then, i did end up catching 5 on the wag ,but the pole and paste was far more productive, i would like to say that the paste rig was vey technical but you cant say to much about a float 2 number 8,s and a big hook on the end i think the best way to describe it is float ledgering cos all you can do is drop it in and wait, but i got to say it is very effective, even phil groves of carpenters arms 2000 gets results on it so it cant be rocket science.at the end i had 18 carp and afew skimmers which was looking ok that was until gary wall owned up to about 165 lb. and he wasnt to far out as his net went 165.10for a comfortable win , all his fish falling to paste fished at 14 mtrs on peg 30
2nd was me with 117.11
3rd vic bush with 86.2 on peg 38 half on thje feeder and half on the poile and paste
4th mike west 80.13 on peg 29
5th phil harding 79.3 peg 5
6th les (chub)williams 75.5 peg 40
silver went to chris derrick on 16 with 15.6 of roach shallow on caster at 13 mtrs

weds avalon

18 booked in so with a reasonable forcast of 9 mph winds and the chance of a heavy downpour the prospects look good, well we didnt get any rain and we had a 20 mph wind blowing straight up the lake, mint, roger andoniou drew peg 12 for me , which is a good wag peg , so i set up a pelletwag for over to the island and a pellet and a paste rig(ha ha)for 14 mtrs.
at the start i cupped in half a pot of 6,s on the pole lineand began firing 8,s to the island,or as close as i could get as the wind had changed direction and had started blowing in slightly. beginning on the pole with a 8mm on the hook bought no bites at all in the first 40 mins , so a switch to the pelletwag was called for, but with the wind putting a large bow in the line and blowing it of the island very quickly the few bites i did get were impossible to hit, i gave it an hour but still had nothing in the net. on my left kev molten had 3 carp on the lead and even mat tomes on my right had a carp he may have had a few more but i think the fish were having a few problems trying to guess where the next chuck was going to land, i can see now why he enjoys viaduct so much as accuracey aint quite so important there.
by now there were signs of activity in my peg in the way of some fizzing out towards the island so there were obviosly some fish out there, so it was off the box and back to the van for another reel as i had only taken one up the bank with me. having a chat as i went it turned out that most people had taken 3 to 5 fish so i was falling behind.
getting back to my peg e set up a big bodied wag to fish on the deck, it was heavier float than i would usually use but with the wind and tow i was just trying to get some stability(5ssg). two chucks later and the first carp was in the net, with the wind making the water tow in the same direction at 16 mtrs you really needed to get a bite within about 2 mins of casting or the float was getting towed off line, and if i did get a bite when that started it was impossible to connect due to the massive bow in the line , by the end i had taken 16 carp for what i guessed would be about 75 lb but they eventually weighed 84 lb
gary wall won on peg 7 with 116.7 fishing paste at 7 and 12 mtrs
2nd went to josh garrett on peg 6 with 112.12 on the straight lead and pellet
3rd paul garrett 106.8 on peg 16 fishing down the edge and 6mtrs on pellet
4th craig tucker 88.12 on peg 24
5th t rixon 84 lb
6th dean malin 68.8
silvers went to dean with 28.4 of mainly skimmers on the pole at 14mtrs and a small g bait feeder.
the good news today was the number of fish taken away from the island so all you people who dont go there cos you have trouble casting things could be changing so now might be the time to give it a go, with lots of fish being takenat 7 mtrs.
if anyone is interested i am running a match there on 1st of august but with a limit of 25 book early,

avalon open

a decent turn out of 28 today which goes to show that the venue is becomming more popular which has a lot to do with the hard work leigh and vic have put in over the last few years , its still got its doubters but i think it always will but thats there loss as its one of the fairest venues you can get with different pegs winning all the time.
back to the draw and ron hardiman drew for me and gave me peg 1, its a peg i have always wanted to draw but never had till today, another plus today was the fact that i was sheltered from the strong southerly wind which had begun to blow. i began with three pellet rigs today, one at 16mtrs in front and 2 for the right hand margin one on top of the shelf and one halfway down, all rigs on .18 with the usual b960 size 16,s on.at the start i cupped in some 6,s in front and some down the margin. starting in front i had 3 carp and a couple of decent skimmers in the first hour, then i began foulhooking, i tried changing the feeding by cupping ,by catapult by not feeding nothing really seemed to work except fot the not feeding, then i had no bites !!!!!!!!!!!! a qiuick look in the margins resulted in 3 more carp and a tench then that went quiet, so i put in half a cup of 6,s at 16 mtrs , i then had a chat with the dark lord and he advised me to set up a paste rig, so 2 1/2 hours in i duly complied and unfortunately i began adding to my total so by switching between the two lines i managed to end the match with 15 carp and some silvers.
i was first to weigh and my catch went 93.11 for first on the day
2nd went to steve skelton with 74.12 on peg 7
3rd phil(fabio)harding with 73.14
4th alan oram 51.12 peg 12
5th tom mangnall 50 lb peg 17
6th mat fisher 46.4 peg 30
silvers went to fish and field very own blip basher chris derrick with 14.12 of bits and bobs on caster shallow.
yet again dean malin entertained us with stories from his youth the best of the dunch today was about the time dean and a mate kidnapped his neighbours ginger tom and turned it into a mini tiger with the help of an indelible marker, i dont expect the owners were to happy

weds avalon

after sunday,s match which was hard but fair i was expecting it to be a bit harder to get people to turn up for todays bash as people expect the chance to catch 100 lb or more , but avalon aint like that as you need to fish for each fish with every one being hard won , but thats the attraction for those that enjoy it and luckily i do, plus all the other venues we fish like viaduct, landsend, bullocks, acorn and so on ,they all have there good and bad points but they are all enjoyable to fish as they all require different approaches.
back to avalon and roger andoniou drew for me and handed me 32 which was on the third island up on the right hand bank, mint, park behind my peg to drop my gear off then move the van back to the carpark.
with the island only 20 mtrs away it was a short chuck on the pelletwag so a 2 ssg j range styro wag with a 16 b960 on .18 , the pole was put together to fish 16 mtrs and 19 mtrs (god thats hard), i saved the rig from sunday which was a 4x14 j3 and a 4x12 impact 10 for shallow just in case both with the same hooks as the wag rig .
for company i had chris fox on the right and steve kedge on the left, chris was the one to watch as he would fish for the carp and steve would probably target the silver vermin so my quid with him was already mine.
at the start i cupped in some 6,s at 16 mtrs and began firing 6,s towards the island trying hard not to feed into the reeds. it took a while to get a bit of fizz started and 30 mins to get my first bite which resulted in a 4 pounder gracing the net, by cupping some 6,s in after every fish i kept putting odd fish in the net , it wasnt manic but with no one seeming to be setting it alight it seemed to turning into a bit of a plod, i did try an odd sortie to 19 mtrs and i did manage a couple of fish but it was hard work as 19 mtrs excerts a tremendious ammount of leverage at the anglers end, it was agood job is wasnt windy . 2 hours from the end and i decided to pick up the wag rod as the reeds were now twitching like mad as i had managged to put some pellets into the reeds so the fish were going to stay put . so providing i got the wag to slide down a reed stem i could expect a bite, trouble is with this style of fishing you tend to hook stems and pull even more over the water making it even harder to get in tight but i did manage it a few times a few times to get 6 more carp in the net.
chris at the next peg had a right torrid losing 16 3 the the carp losing fish on any method he cared to try, he must have been watching tim clark on his right as i think he lost the same number due to the fish swimming through a gap in the island but we have come to excpect this with tim.
kedgey on my left did as i excpected and was admitting to 30 lb of silvers and as he had only used his topset it shows that the venue does have some silvers mileage to it.
as it was my 16 carp and a handful of skimmers went 87.12 which was enough on the day
2nd went to gary wall on 48 with 73.8 on paste down the edge
3rd roger(old git)andoniou 57.10 on peg 38
4th phil(fabsy)harding51.10 on peg 44
5th tim clarke 44.4 peg 28
6th martin lenaghan 42.2 peg 26
silvers went to steve kedge with 29.6 on peg 37 all roach caught up in the water on caster just using his topset
you may be wondering as to the whereabouts of a certain mr malin, well he decided not to fish the match but go on the speci lake to catch some skimmers he also took the fish finder to see if he could see where the fish were when they fizz. after the match i went up to see him and see what he had caught, and he pulled out his net which had about 60 lb of skimmers in it, not bad for a lake with no silvers in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and the fizz all he could tell was that all the fish seemed to 2 foot off the bottom all the time but if you put a bait at the same depth you wouldnt get a bite, we can only assume that that the fish go down take a mouthful the come up and eat it then go down and take another mouthful, which makes a lot of sense as the double bulk and lift method works so well for the skimmers

float only rnd 2 avalon

the day started well with the usual good breakfast in abby,s in bishopsworth, then yhe 35 minute drive to avalon, on the way the conversation with dean gets round as to how fast he can run, he sat there telling me and jason that he did a speed test up at bristol zoo last year and he clocked 38 mph now must of us know that even a top sprinter cant do much more than 20 mph. so we stopped on the moors by the north drain dean got out , fag in mouth and say,s i will hang on the hand grip inside the van through the open window while i accelerate to 20 mph , it started off ok up to about 10 mph but by the time i hit 20 he was taking 30 foot strides and there was look of panic on his face that nearly made me wet myself, when he gt back in the van he did inall fairness admit that he wasnt quite as fast as he used to be, i cant remember the last time i laughed that much, i wished we had video,d it.
back to the draw, dean drew for me and i ended up on 38 which is a good draw as its on the left hand side of the gap on the second island, for company i had leon hubbard on my right who is undoubtedly one of the south wests finest all rounders (and he beat me).
and matt dark on my left who aint as good as leon but he is a damn fine carpet fitter (and i beat him) . the peg has a lot of form as a waggler peg so a 3ssg pellet wag was put together with a 16 b960 for pellet to the island, a impact 10 dibber for shallow but that didnt happen and a 4x14 j3 for on the deck with the usual 16 hook to .18.
at the start i cupped in somme 6,s at 16 mtrs and began firing 8,s to the island, i had a bit of a fizz after a couple of minutes and a 6 pounder in the net after 10, i stuck with the pole for the first 2 hours and had 3 carp and 4 decent skimmers all on 8mm hard pellet. by then the wind had picked up to a near gale making presentation on anything nigh on impossible, i did manage 1 more carp on the wag and lost one but due to the wind coming staight at us on our side of the lake the float wouldnt stay on the island it was blowing staight back as soon as it hit the water , the wind was so strong that even 8mm pellets wouldnt get there sometimes. so at the end it was 4 carp and 4 skimmers, not a good day.
the match was won on the speci by chris fox with 12 carp for 62.4 on peg 19 on the pellet wag
2nd kev molten on 24 with61.1 on pellet down the edge
3rd andy lloyd 59.5 peg 13
4th fred roberts peg 20 with 56.8 and he lost 20 carp and floats as they kept swimming through the gap in the island
5th clint wojtyla 55.8 peg 10 on the speci lake
6th tom magnol on 18 speci lake with 50.13, he should have won as he has had 2 10 pomders jump out of his net and he lost a possible 20 pounderat the net and just when he thought his day couldnt get any worse , as he was putting his pole away he stood on it breaking all the sections between the no4 and the 13 mtr piece and i was having a bad day.
i ended up with 28 lb and leon beat me with a foul hooked 10 pounder(i had to tell them leon) giving him 35 lb, but you still got to land them.
i,m running a match at landsend 3 and 4 lake next sunday anyone wanting to fish ring me at the shop on 01179517250 to book in it will be a 10 am draw so book early to avoid dissapointment
silvers were won today by mike west on peg 7 again with 18.9 of skimmers on corn over pellet at 10 mtrs

avalon again

its been a while since we fished here so i was looking forward to it , as its a venue that can be a bit testing to say the least, with a lot of anglers ,and good ones a that staying away . perhaps its the fact they cant cast a float tight or sit behind a lead rod pinging some 8,s somewhere in the vicinity of there hook bait who knows or it might be just a bit of a difficult nut to crack.
liegh and vic have done a lot of work over the winter and spring , trimming islands repairing platforms installing aerators and chalking the lakes, which seems to have done it good as the colour was a nice brown with no trace of that horrible grey suspension that seems to switch it off making the fish difficult to catch,
i fancied peg 1 today as have never drawn it but it wasnt to be , i waited till the end to draw and it was left to me and martin lenaghan to argue over the last two tickets , as it turned out martingot peg one an i had to make do with 24 (christ its tough sometimes)probably the best peg on the venue , i cant believ fadio didnt draw it as its one he has had several times, he had to make do with 11 which aint bad .
3 pole rigs today two 4x14 j3,s on .18 with a 16 b960 one for out in front and one for down the edge by the reeds, and a 4x12 impact 10 with the same line and hook for shallow against the reeds, and i set up a pellet wag to fish towards the end of the island,
at the start i cupped in some 6,s at 16 mtrs and by the reeds down the edge and fired some 8,s towards the island, starting at 16 mtrs with a banded 8mm i had 1 bite in the first 30 mins , a 10 oz skimmmer being the culprit, and with no fizzing going on the signs werent good, so out on the wag and that was hard , ifished that for about one hour and managed just 2 carp for about 8 lb, i did mis 2 or 3 bites but that was a none starter really, so it was down the edge then, and there seemed to be plenty of fish down there with liners and bites with most of the carp being of a sensible , 3 to 6 lb , feeding with a catty meant that some of the feed went into the reeds , so when the reeds began twitching i would ditch the deep rig and push the shallow rig against the reeds and catch one then go back on the deck, by switching between the deep and shallow rigs i caught odd fish right to the end ending up with 23 carp ,one tench, one skimmer and 2 x 8 oz carp. being up in the corner i couldnt see what was going on , the only person i could seew as gary wall opposite on 23 whose always good for a bit of entertainment as he can swear more in 6 hours than the entire cast of shameless can do in an entire series,. after the match the only person who had caught was dean malin who was admitting to about 100 lb. liegh turned up with the scales and my catch went 129.14 which was enough as dean was close with his guess as his net went 114.15 for second place all his fish falling to 8mm pellet fished between 17 and 20.5 mtrs which takes some doing, being on peg 16 it meant he could just reach the island(to heavy for me and most other people)
3rd alan oram on peg 12 with 75.11
4th gary wall 69.2 peg 23
5th vic bush 66.15 peg 19
6th glen bailey 63.5 peg 5
silvers were won by mike west on peg 7 with 21.12 of skimmers taken at 10 mtrs on soft pellet.
it fished quite well really with fish on most pegs willing to have a bit of a munch so with the improved water colour the signs are that it should fish much better this year and to be fair the anglers that have been fishing it recently have enjoyed some good sport with silvers and carp, as far as the matches go it has never been a fish race venue and i hope it never does as its possible to win and frame off numerous pegs and you are always in with a chance as its a venue where a couple of big fish can always get you back in the hunt

its all gone pear shaped at avalon

fabio drew for me and i drew for him today, he draws 23 for me which is the top left corner and i drew 24 for him top right corner , now that is wierd.with a north easterly blowing it meant we would be both sat in flat water, not good for silvers or carpas they both seem to be following the wind so a draw further back down the lake would have been favourable but at least i was in the sun.
3 rigs , a 4x16 impact 6 with a 16 6313 to .12 ror corn over micro,s at 16 mtrs.
a 4x14 impact 6 with a 16 b960 to .16 for just up the shelf with banded 8mm , and a 4x12 dibber for up in the water against the reeds with a 18 b960 to .16 for banded pellet.
at the start i cupped in some soaked micro,s at 16 mtrs and some 4,s up and down the shelf at 13 and 16 mtrs. starting at 16 mtrs over the micro,s with maggot on the hook, did that for 30 mins without a bite ,not a good sign, so i left that and went to 16 mtrs up the edge with pellet over pellet and didnt get a bite there either. i had set up a wag to fish out along the reeds so i tried that , i had 1 bite which came from a 8 oz rudd which dropped off as i tried to swing it (i still dont learn), and that was it on the wag, so now it was down the edge at 13 mtrs , and whooppee a carp of about 3lb was on and netted, 15 mins later and his twin was in the net, it was 2 hours in and fabio opposite and mike etheridge next door on 22 were still biteless.
2 1/2 hours in at 2 o,clock and fabio has his first bite and nets a 6 lb carp. then i went shallow in the reeds at 13 mtrs and get another small one, then i went long and got another , then fabs,y gets a 9 lb fish, the righting is on the wall again as his first 2 fish weigh more than my 4 , also mike next door has had 2 on paste by now for about 14 lb .
as usual there were plenty of fish in the reeds but they wont come out as its there house and they dont want to!!!!!. by the end both me and fabio had 8 fish but his were of a better stamp so that was going to be twice on the trot for the side bet(2 quid).
when the scales turned up my 8 fish went 33 lb while fabio,s went 61 lb.
the match was won by bridgwaters very own chippendale vince brown with 103.1 on peg 37 fishing the conker towards the island
2nd kevin molton with 91.8 on peg 10 with pellet on the lead
3rd tom (the big smile )magnol 73.11 on peg 29
4th russ peck 73.2 on peg 48
5th gary wall 65.13 peg 13
6th phil (fabio)harding 61 lb on peg 24
silvers
brian shanks 12.4 on peg 7 with corn over pellet at 13 mtrs
dean malin 12.3 peg 44 soft pellet
not a bad match really as we had a lot fishhing today we had 35 in the end and everyone caught a few fish so it bodes well for later on when the water warms up a bit more as it is still only 12 c.
next sunday i am running a match on the new lake at acorn ,any takers ring the shop to bok in
01179517250 it will be a ten draw

avalon weds

off to shipham for brekkie where deans eye,s lit up when he saw they now do a bigger than ever breakfast called the greedy b,stard. considering its only a quid more than the usual dean never thought it would be that big(wrong),when it turned up it was probably the biggest we had ever seen, but fair play he nailed it but only just
of to the lake and it was good to see liegh and vic have been working hard to sort out the islands and the platforms and it really looks to be coming together, even the consevation lake is open for customers now, its going to be a syndicate lake, and one of the new members was fishing it today and had a 26 1/2 lb ghostie which had probably never seen a hook before.
back to the draw and i found myself on peg 9 which is the first swim on the second island, 2 pole rigs, both 4x16 impact 6 floats one with an 18 6313 to .10 and the other a 16 6313 to .12, the smaller hook for maggot over groundbait at 13 mtrs and the other for corn over micro,s at 16 mtrs, and i set up a waggler to fish to the island with banded 8mm pellet about 3 foot deep. at the start i cupped 4 balls of g bait at 13 ,and about 1/4 cup of micro,s at 16.
i fired some 6 mm pellets to the island and began on that , 3 chucks and that was the first float gone then, there was 1 spindly twig stuck out and it turned out to be more than a match for my line, so chuck that up the bank and out on the pole over the g bait, the float slid straight under and a 1 1/2 skimmer was in the net,for the next hour i had some more small skimmers(4 oz) and roach by then it was descision time ,weather to go for silvers or carp, so i refed the pole lines and re made the wag, glad idid cos within 3 chucks i had my first carp, i think i had 4 in the next 45 mins all on 8mm pellet(lovely).back on the pole and a 2lb tench and some more small roach ended up in the net, out to the 16 mtr line with corn and 2 12oz skimmers took a liking to my corn , then the third bite was a carp, after netting it i fed again and went back out on the wag , after 2 more carp and it was back on the pole for another carp and a couple of good skimmers up to 3lb(ok so it was a bream then), a bit more feed and out on the wag again and carp number 9 was netted, then the wind direction changed slightly and i couldnt keep my wag close to the island it kept tripping out ,away from the killing zone so it was back on the pole for the last 50 mins. i had 1 more carp and 3 more good skimmers in that time. at the end gary wall , dean malin , myself and andy france all had 10 or 11 fish so it could be tight, as i had double figures of silvers i thought that might just swing it in my favour, in the end i had 15.14 of silvers and 54.13 of carp, total 70.11 and a win and top silvers as well
2nd gary wall 50.01 peg 1 on corn up the edge on the pole
3rd dean malin 43.03 peg 5 on his beloved feeder
4th martin lenaghan 38.02 peg 13
