bullocks farm

this was a bit of a practice match for next sundays teams of 4,s and with 22 of us on the match lake the pegging would be the same as next week, after a brerakfast at the venue, which has to be said was very good and with the draw being at 8.30 next week week the cafe will be open from about 7.30.
into the draw bag went paul elmes and pulled out 2 tickets so i took one and ended up on 12 whilst paul managed to keep hold of 17, which is the best peg on the whole venue, but then again he needs to draw well cos it makes up for his lack of talent.
for company i had team fry,s very own slipper wearing legend known as steve (the beast)preece, and if his catmeat approach worked i would be in for some serious mickey taking, and i had martin rich the other side.
the worrying thing today was the clarity of the water, all the colur seems to have gone, so i opted for light lines and rigs , so it was a couple of 4x10 rigs ,one to use straight out at 13 mtrs and one to fish by the island to my left on .10 with an 18 6313 , and a 4x10 to fish the margins each side again with a 18 6313 but on ,12.
at the start i cupped in some dusty g bait at 13 and by the island and fed some casters each side in the margins.
starting at 13 mtrs with soft pellet i had a small hybrid straight away then a crucian then nothing, on with a maggot and a small roach took it but that was it . over to the island and i had a 2lb fantail then nothing again, so it was a case of catching a fish , feed again and look some where else(by the island)but it was crap, the only people i could see getting any sport was paul elmes on 17(no suprise there then)and gary bebford on 8 was also catching a few, i did have 2 bites down the right hand margin and had 2 small carp but that was the only bites i had down the margins. no one seemed to upset when the all out was called as most had struggled, the beast nextdoor had taken 4 carp on catmeat so it was looking dodgy, the scales would tell.
as expected even paul elmes couldnt cock peg 17 up and won with 35.1 on mainly soft pellet fished at 11 mtrs, he also had top silvers weight with 19.9
2nd gary bedford 24.2 peg 8
3rd glen calvert 22.7 peg 30
4th dave roper 21.14 peg 25
5th rod (i aint got 10lb lol)wooten 19.2 peg 31
6th john grey and me with 12.12 john was on 2
john grey was first in the silvers by default with 12.2 giving me second in the silvers with 8.4
i hope the water colours up a bit by next week or we will be in for another tough day

bullocks fry,s series standin

we went to bullocks for brekkie, but it wasnt any where as good as shipham, live and learn.
into the draw bag and out came 26, pete sivell,s favourite peg and certainly a possible match winning peg. its got a weed bed on the right, an island in front at 12 mtrs and some open water to target the fantails and crucians aswell. 3 rigs all 4x10 impact 6 floats, one with an 18 6313 to .10 for the silvers, the other 2 were on .16 with an 18 xedion hook to fish by the weed bed and to the island. on the whistle i cupped in dusty green g bait at 8 mtrs in the open water then some soaked micro,s and corn by the weeds and to the island.
out with a 4mm jelly pellet at 8 mtr over the g bait and the first fantail was soon in the net, soon to be followed by a second, then a couple of missed bites saw me reachinc for the corn, sorting out the small pieces and slightly squashing it several more followed i also started putting some of the soaked micro,s on and that was good for a while but as expected tha bites slowly slowed right up , then phil,s stocking of "quality"roach turned up so about 2 hours in it was time to check the weed bed , so on with a piece of corn and i lowered it in next to the weeds, oops first fouler gone, the weed bed was solid with fish , i could see tails and backs in the weeds sunbathing, i was getting lots of liners , but they didnt seem to want to settle yet, i did manage a couple of small carp about 2 lb but i lost a good fish which i foulhooked and played for several minutes in 25 and 24 pegs before i finally lost round to my left in some snags underwater(that dont normally happen at bullocks does it).about 4 hours in the fish began to show a bit more interest and the peg was getting better but i was still loseing nearly as many as i was landing, but they were on the small side, unlike john macey on 24 who was now catching on paste at 13 mtrs , and they were big fish aswell, certainly up to 10 lb, the word on the bank was that it wasnt fishing to well, and the fancied pegs on north pool werent producing so i got my head down and by the end had about 12 carp and some silvers.
my sivers went 11.4 which turned out to be top silvers on the day and the carp went 31.5 for a total of 42.9, but it was only good enough for 2nd overall as john macey,s fish went 54.5 and a comfortable win.
3rd was venue regular kieth firks on north pool 6 with 30.8
4th steve preece 29.12 peg 24 north pool, if any one gets the chance ask him for his take that impression he sounds and dances just like gary barlow
5th martin rich 29.12 peg 8
6 th marvelous merv sivell 20.1 on north pool 8
2nd in the silvers was dean malin with 9.10 on 18 match lake
i really ought to go to bullocks more often as i never seem to get a bad peg there

better at bullocks

23 fishing today so we had 19 on the match with 4 on south pool. i didnt mind to much as to where i drew , but i wasnt to happy when shaun putley handed me peg 2. not normally to good for silvers or carp, although you can get a few down the edge to the left under a small tree. so i set up a 4x12 rig for in the open water for silvers , a 4x10 rig for the left hand margin and the same for 16 mtrs to peg 1 which wasnt in.
at the start i cupped in some dry grounbait at 12 and 2 , and a mix of caster maggot and pellet under the tree to the left at 6 mtrs and at 16 mtrs to peg 1 at 16 mts.
starting on maggot over the g bait a nd i had a fantail and a couple of hybrids ,then small roach, a change to corn on the hook and a sucsession of crucians started to find themselves in my net , by kinder potting dry g bait over the 2 lines i kept getting the odd fanny and crucians till about three hours in when it started to go quiet , a look with maggot only produced small roach , so i put in a potfull of g bait with maggot and caster over the 2 lines and got the margin rig out, a look to the left only reseulted in a missed bite on treble maggot and the rig ended up in the tree, i still get excited when the float goes under!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . so i went round and retrieved the rig from the tree, then went to peg 1 with treble maggot , and hooked 1 straight away but it came off after a few seconds, so i cupped in some more mix up and went back over the silver lines and had odd fannies and roach . after about 10 mins i went back down to peg 1 and after a couple of mins i had another 1 on which stuck this time and a 9 lb fish was safely netted, thats how my match went right to the end really catch a carp feed again go on the silver line get a couple of roach and a fannie then try for a carp, by the end i had 6 carp and i thought about 12 lb of silvers. i could see bela bakos on 17 catching on paste and in the end he had had 21 carp plus bits so he was favourite to win , and lewis jones on 24 had been catching silvers well so that looked sown up.
back to the skales and i was first to weigh, 16.8 of silvers that was a shock , obviosly fat fannies tend to weigh well. and the carp went 34.8 total 52 lb which was top until we got to bela on peg 17 whose 21 carp went 66.13 for first with my 52 lb good enough for 2 nd
3 rd lewis jones 39.11 and top silvers with 16.13 peg 24
4 th tom thicck 32.2 peg 26
5 th gary wall 28.10 peg 21
6 th mike nicholls 28.1 peg 8
nice to see shaun putley out on the bank again thats 2 weeks on the trot and he is even threatening to go again next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!. he was going to fish next years teams of 4 with bela and 2 more but bela has decided to fish with someone else so shaun has has been treated like a used condom and thrown in the gutter poor bloke , i can remember when bela used to like him.
and fabio has finally won a quid off me he was on the river fishing the winter league .i had to offer him 6 times his weight to get the bet, then he goes and draws one of the best chub pegs on the lower avon at swineford and managed to foulhook 12 lb of the buggers meaning i had to get 72 lb to get the quid which is a tall order at bullocks. it aint so bad cos i am only loseing 1 of the pounds he has had to give me lol , i think i might have my wag rod back that i have lent him.

bullocks open

i havnt been to bullocks since april so it was quite a surprise to see how much all the greenery had grown . it really could do with a serious bit of pruning. talking to phil the owner he was telling me that he is getting a landscape gardener to work at clearing it up doing it one day a week !!!!!!!!!!!!!
no surprise with the draw, i ende up on 24 which is without doubt one of the best pegs on there, and with dean malin drawing 17 which is the other best peg on the venue.
aquick chat with ray cooper who informed me that he had fished the peg the day before and had caught about 80 lb in 3 hours at 6 mtr and on his top set down to his right, ithought the latter might be a non starter as i had stu foale behind me on peg 1 but time would tell, so i set up a 4x12 rig for the right hand margin a 4x10 rig for tight in down the left , a 4x12 for about 9 mtr and a 4x10 rig for by the island to fish hair rigged 6 and 8 hard pellet.
on the whistle i cupped some caster down to the left , some softened 3mm at 9mtr and 1/4 cup of 4,s on the island. starting at 9 mtr on soft pellet it didnt take long to put a fantail in the net, shortly followed by another but i was missing a few bites, opposite on 17 dean had opted for the usual groundbait approach and was getting more bites than me which left me wishing that i hadnt put pellet in on this line, it did help when i started fishing corn over the pellet , the bites were a lot more possitive, and talking to dean after he found the same. unfortunately i over cooked it on this line, i just cant keep my hand out of the bait tub sometimes even when i know its wrong. i some times wish i could be more like mike nicholls on days like this cos he is good at light feeding(bollocks to that he is just tight). so now i had done that line in a quick look down the edge was in order , down to the right not a twitch and it was the same story down to the left.
all the time i had been firing 4,s over to the island and there were a few bubbles so it was no surprise when a small carp(2lb)took the bait , and to be honest apart from a couple of quick looks down the margins left and right , no bites to the right(no surprise)and 2 badly beaten up rigs to my left, those fish are to quick and its to snaggy where the live, i spent the rest of the match out
by the island fishing 6 and 8 mm hard pellet and feeding 4,s with a catapult. its a shame you fish the islands properly as there is so much foliage hanging over the water, so you end up about 2 foot of and you just know that the fish are creeping round the island . the sooner phil gets the gardener in the better.
on the whistle the only pesron that i thought might beat me that i could see was dean who was admitting to 10lb of silvers and 45 lb of carp, i was admitting to 60 lb total so i was even more convinced that he had done it.
following the scales round the best weight by the time we got to dean was paul faires on peg 6 with38 lb
deans silvers went 17.2 and his carp went46.3 totalling 63.5 giving him the silvers and first on the day
i was 2 nd with 61.13(one fish off the one that bust me between my nets would have done it)
3 rd tom thick 53.14peg 27
4th nick collins 39.2 peg 26
5th paul faires 38 peg 6
6th dave evans 34 peg19
a couple of larry let downs today trigger got drunk and didnt show, i am glad now that i put a handfull of maggots in his football kit bag and mark leader who just didnt show. we were only one short on the day cos martin lenaghan was in the cafe looking for somewhere to go so he took triggers place , it would be nice if people would phone and let you know if they cant make it.
it wouldnt be right if i didnt mention fabio , since being given a budgie 3 weeks ago , he hasnt let it out for a fly so i am starting a campaign to FREE THE WHITEHALL ONE. she needs her excercise fi fi will have to put up with the flapping.
