with me drawing us rubbish pegs it was decided that ron hardiman would do the team draw for us today, which he duly did and i ended up on 26 on spring, not a draw you would want on past form in this series, there is a bush to the left at 14 mtrs which does throw up the odd carp but it had only produced one so far in this series, and with vince brown on peg 1 fishing back to the same bush i didnt think either of us would get one as it was a bit of an overkill by the bush, but i set up a 4x14 rig on .16 with a xedion 18 on to fish maggot and caster over caster feed by the branches.
i also set up a 4x16 rig to fish for silvers at 16 mtrs at 11 and 1 over groundbait with an 18 6313 on .10.
on the whistle i cupped in 2 balls of my dedicated skimmer g bait(christ that makes me sound like mike nicholls lol)at 11 and 1 and cupped some casters down to the bush, shipping out to 16 mtrs at 1 o,clock first drop produced a 12oz skimmer, nice start, and that set the trend for the rest of the match really as i caught steadily right through the match on the 16 mtr line with skimmers from 3oz to 3lb on single caster or maggot with a 4 inch hooklength with 2 x no10,s just off bottom i had a lot of positive lifters which are nearly impossible to miss, as the wind and tow increased i did move the shot a bit further away .
i did get a 1 1/2lb perch at 5 mtrs on caster but down the edge was the expected waste of time with only a 5oz rudd and the other side of the bush only produced a small roach for vince, by the end i reckoned i had over 30lb of skimmers and with josh garrett on 19 having the most carp on the lake with 3, i had probably done enough to win the lake, fred roberts on 24 had about 25lb of skimmers. the scales turned up with fred to weigh first and he put 26.13 on the scales then there was 15lb on 25 . i must admit i was pleasently suprised when i lifted my net out as it felt like it was over 40lb, in fact it went 43lb which gave me a lake win and first in the silvers, and to say i moaned about the peg was a bit of an understatement, but it just goes to show , every peg has its day, it was a good job the skimmers decided to move away from there usual haunt which is on 16 to 19 and the carp shut up shop as well.
the match was won by steve seagar with 105.8 on peg 99 with popped up bread onm the lead
2nd tom mangnell 96.7 peg123
3rd paul greenwood 87.10 peg110

viaduct 5,s rnd 3
firstly i must apologise for being a day late, i couldnt get to the pc on sunday night as judith was doing the ironing and the laptop was all but buried under clothes.
it was my turn on match lake section and the draw sequence put me on peg 48 which doesnt give me an island chuck, there are only 2 pegs on this lake without island options and josh garrett on 39 had the other one, getting to my peg the i was met with a left to right and into me near gale force wind, mint no feeder chuck and only a nominal wag chuck so the pole was going to be my best option.
one of the best parts of the day was watching fabio on peg 40(island chuck)looking for his number 5 section that i had snuck out of his pole the day before, it took him a good 5 mins of trying before he realised the 4 didnt fit on the 6, then it was another 5 mins of searching and banging about until i txt him and asked as to whether he had lost something and he did ;ook mighty relieved when i gave it back, he is mint on a wind up as he gets all stressy, so come on everyone feel free to have a go.
2 rigs today, a .5grm with an 18 6313 on .10 to fish at 11mtr and if the wind allowed 14 mtrs, and a 4x10 rig with the same hook but on .12 to go to the left hand margin at 14 mtrs by some dead reeds. at the start i cupped in 1 ball of g bait at 11 mtrs and 2 balls at 14, oh and i did set up a wag rod to fish over the g bait lines if i needed a rest from the battering by the wind on the pole, i also cupped in some casters down the margin.
it took me 30 mins to get a bite but it was worth it as it was a 2lb tench, but i new i was going to be up against it as the aglers over to my left had begun to get bites on the wag as they could feed to the island as the gale was of there backs, and they were getting odd smasll carp and skimmers ,as were the anglers over to my right as they were throwing the feeder to the island and getting the same, i did mansge another slightly smaller tench and a skimmer in the first 90 mins, but presentation was at an all time low due to the wind, but i must say my garbolino g maxx 1000 coped really well with the short 4,s probably helping, a look down the margin produced a good perch and a small/tiny common carp, no matter what i tried i couldnt raise a bite on anything or any where, what made matters worse was that i could see fabio through the trees netting fish so the 2 quid side bet was gone this time, 30 mins from the end the wind dropped and i had 2 bites at 14 mtrs one was a 12oz goldfish and the other was a 1 1/2 mirror, and that was my lot for what i thought would be about 9lb, i was 1oz out as i had 9lb 1oz. dan squires won the lake on peg 52 with 40lb on the wag with fabio coming second on the lake with 29lb.
the match was won by martin preston on 85 with 90 plus pounds which included a 24lb common all taken on the lead with popped up marshmallows, what is it coming to, that is one bait that would be no goob for me as it wouldnt even get to the bank, i did catch on jelly baby heads once, i was eating the bodies and putting the heads on the hook until but they got the better of me and i ended up nailing the heads aswell mmmmmmm.
and spare a thought for josh on 39 who never had a bite but had to watch dan and fabio each side coming first and second on the lake, josh is no mug as he has probably won more matches on this venue than dan and fabio put together but it just goes to show how important an island chuch is on this lake at the mo, but that does change as the weather and water warms up, i dont mean any disrespect to dan with this comment ,but fadio well thats another story.
as for the league and results on day see mikes blog.

well that was a waiting game, viaduct rnd 2
this was the second leg of the teams of 5,s and with temps going down to minus 6 on sat night we were met with an iced over venue and the water under the ice beiong like gin so it was going to be hard, just not as hard as it turned out to be.
it was my turn to be on lodge lake so one of the corners would be fav as there are always one or two carp to be had, but no i ended up on 62 which is just past the middle of the lake on the right hand bank, not much chance of a carp but it has some form as a skimmer peg, and to be fair i did win the silvers off 61 last winter in icy conditions so i was confident of getting a bite or two, for company i had josh garrett on 64 and somersets only michael jackson impersonater freddie roberts on 60 which is a much better skimmer peg than mine(lol)that is providing there is a decent skimmer angler on there(square ass eh fred).
the ice was only about 5 mil so 15 mins with the breaker and i had a peg to be jelous of, as it was cleared to 17 mtrs and 6 mtrs wide, it was certainly one to be proud of.
the best thing about ice fishing is that one rig will do aLL so a 4x14 rig was soon made with an 18 6313 to .10 on the business end, a bit of dark g bait was soon knocked up and i was ready.
the whistle went to start and i cupped in opne ball at 13 mtrs and 2 balls each side of my peg at 16 mtrs each ball had a few casters and squatts in.
starting at 13 mtrs with a selection of baits from single squatt to single caster, i never had a bite, so after 1 hour it was out to 16 mtrs with the sam.
e baits, and not a bite there either, i even scaled down to a 22 but that never produced a thing. on the opposite side chris wave(i cant read pauls writing )on 73(corner) was getting odd carp and james cooper and phil (fabio)harding were getting a small roach a chuck, fabsy even txt me to make sure the pound coin was buffed up ready for him, also nick collins on 66(corner) had a carp.
it was well past the halfway mark now and judging by the shouting and laughing going on the whole venue had switched off, i,d even had 2 visits from mike nicolls who was blanking. 2 hours from the end fred on 60 started getting small roach, on about his tenth small roach he turned to me and said let that be a lesson to you mr r
but then at 5 past 2 i thought i had a bite so i lowered the rig back in and i did have a bite which was a 8oz hybrid woohoo. then fred had a skimmer, bugger, then i had a 2 pounder, so i changed the hook back to an 18 and had another big skimmer, ye fred and fabsy werent laughing now, by the end i had the 2 big skimmers ,2 good roach the hybrid and some plippy roach which went 7lb 8oz which was good enough for 3rd on the lake only being beaten by the match winner chris on 73 with 65.8 and john moody on 53(corner) with 1 carp for 10.3, and what of fred and fabsy as i told them its never over till the fat tackle dealer sings

viaduct w/l
3 teams down on last year but it was still a good turn out with 17 teams of 5 which is a big match by todays standards. todays draw put me on b section which is cary lake and my chosen peg was 88, the pretty bush peg, probably one of my least liked pegs on the venue and one i tend to draw quite often, its a peg which doesnt afford you a proper lead chuck as you are opposite the diagonal bank which means those opposite are casting across you, so i decided on an out and out silvers attack especially as the carp had really shut up shop on this lake with only a handfull being caught during the last fortnight, with p[hil(fabio)harding for company on 87 at least the banter would be good.
i set up 3 rigs a 4x18 rig to fish maggot and caster over g bait at 14 mtrs , a 4x16 for caster over caster at 5 mtrs both these rigs with an 18 6313 to .10 and a 4x14 rig for down the edge again for caster but on .12 with the same hook. i also set up a small g bait feeder as the skimmers sometimes respond to this method fished at about 20 mtrs. on the whistle i cupped in 3 balls at 14, some casters at 5 and started throwing casters down the edge, i then had about 4 chucks with the feeder to put a bit of bait out then put a hook on with a single maggot, then it was a case of casting counting to 100 wind in cast again, i did give it 20 mins but my brain was beginning to luiquify and dribble out of my ear so with only 1 small roach to show for this no brainer i slung it up the bank, out with the pole to 14 mtrs, aaaaah proper. i was catching small skimmers straight away, mainly 4 to 6oz but it was a bite a brop with most being lifters as i had a small bulk of 3x no10,s just off bottom, the strong left to right wind was making life a bit hard as i nearly hit phil wioth pole a couple of times as the wind tried to blow the pole out of my hands,(and i,ve got to say the new gmax1000 pole i am using was mint, it coped wioth the wind very well and is very resonsive). apart from a few sorties at 5 mtrs and down the edge which produced some roach and a 10oz hybrid which was my biggest fish of the day the rest of the day was spent on the 14 mtr line, with only a handfull of carp caught with those caught by different anglers my descision to target silvers looked as though it may just pay off, fabio did panic me a bit towards the end as he miss cast into dan squires peg(86)he wound in straight away but hooked an 8 pounder in the tail so was expecting it to be close but i neednt have worried as the lake had been really hard and my silvers went 16.5 for a lake win and second in the silvers overall on the day.
first on the day went to jason radford with 82lb on spring lake 3 fishing bread to the island for an all carp catch, but he is an idiot as he forgot to do the super pool as he was to intent on having a fag outside the pub instead of doing the pools he is a wxxxxr
john gray wasnt complaing though as he was second on peg 132 with 78.2 and the winners pools of 115 quid(john doesnt smoke)

viaduct teams of 5 last round
this wont take long. with clayton hudson not fishing today as some useless low life stole his tackle from his shed on thursday night . its probably been sold for about 50 quid just to fuel some crackheads habit. instead of spending millions every year trying to get them off the hard stuff with rehab and methodone give them pure shit and dirty needles ,problem solved.
back to the match and as i was doing the pools for the overalls and silvers ,ron hardiman did the team draw and he managed to put me on 85 on cary, its been a right form peg all winter with carp on the lead(i had to do it), also it has shown a bit of silvers form in the last couple of weeks with good perch and skimmers on the wag and caster at about 20 mtrs.
so 2 rods one lead with an 18 xedion for triple maggot, and a 3 aa wag with an 18 6313 to .10.
on the whistle the lead was despatched towards the aerator and in line with the end of the spit , i fired some casters on the wag line , then sat back and waited for the tip to pull round and waited and waited, i was getting the odd indication so there were some fish out there but they wouldnt take the bait, there were some carp being caught over on the diagonal bank to my left but i couldnt get a pull. steve long walked round at 12.30 and as he stopped to talk my tip started to move and pull round but it was only liners, it didnt matter where i chucked in the peg the tip wouldnt stay still, while steve was there the tip went round nice and steady and i hooked one , foulhooked one in the wing, but they all count. an hour later and i had one in the mouth and that was me lot, but for the last 3 hours of the match i had had a liner on indication every chuck, as did alex murray who was on the other side of the spit i think there were to many fish there lol, so i reckon i have done really well to avoid them. andy lloyd on 100 won the lake and match with 153 lb on the lead with meat(guess who never took meat with them, doh)
2nd tim(the plummet)pallant wth 7 fish for 99.6 all on bread on the lead with the biggest fish going 21 lb on peg 78
3rd ray hayward 59.5 peg 113
4th roland lucas 54.13 peg 128

yet again steve and paul ran a good league shame the weather put paid to any real consistent sport , hopefully the weather will be kinder next winter.
just to let hayley know that i have cured my incontinence , i dont eat the pies or drink the coffee when she is on duty he he he he he
back to the match and as i was doing the pools for the overalls and silvers ,ron hardiman did the team draw and he managed to put me on 85 on cary, its been a right form peg all winter with carp on the lead(i had to do it), also it has shown a bit of silvers form in the last couple of weeks with good perch and skimmers on the wag and caster at about 20 mtrs.
so 2 rods one lead with an 18 xedion for triple maggot, and a 3 aa wag with an 18 6313 to .10.
on the whistle the lead was despatched towards the aerator and in line with the end of the spit , i fired some casters on the wag line , then sat back and waited for the tip to pull round and waited and waited, i was getting the odd indication so there were some fish out there but they wouldnt take the bait, there were some carp being caught over on the diagonal bank to my left but i couldnt get a pull. steve long walked round at 12.30 and as he stopped to talk my tip started to move and pull round but it was only liners, it didnt matter where i chucked in the peg the tip wouldnt stay still, while steve was there the tip went round nice and steady and i hooked one , foulhooked one in the wing, but they all count. an hour later and i had one in the mouth and that was me lot, but for the last 3 hours of the match i had had a liner on indication every chuck, as did alex murray who was on the other side of the spit i think there were to many fish there lol, so i reckon i have done really well to avoid them. andy lloyd on 100 won the lake and match with 153 lb on the lead with meat(guess who never took meat with them, doh)
2nd tim(the plummet)pallant wth 7 fish for 99.6 all on bread on the lead with the biggest fish going 21 lb on peg 78
3rd ray hayward 59.5 peg 113
4th roland lucas 54.13 peg 128
5th nick collins54.13 peg 129
6th james knight 45.6 peg 53
silvers mat parsons 19.7 of skimmers on the wag and caster on peg 60

viaduct teams of 5 rnd 4
my turn on cambell today and the draw wasnt particularly kind to me as i ended up on 116, a good warm weather peg but no good at the mo . most of the carp seem to be hanging off the front of the spit on 128, 129 and opposite on 112, 113 and 114 as well as odd fish all round that half of the lake. with the wind and rain in my face and across it was always going to be difficult. 2 pole rigs one a 1grm with an 18 6313 to .10 for over the g bait(the g still means ground mr blackmore) , the other was a 4x16 with an 18 6313(middy)to .12 for over the caster line at 16 mtrs(wind permitting) and i also set up a straight lead rod and a wag to fish over the 2 pole lines.
at the start i put in 3 balls at 13 mtrs , some casters at 16 mtrs then chucked the tip out with treble maggot on an 18 xedion hook, 25 mins and the tip went round not a carp but a welcome pound and a half skimmer was in the net touble was the people on the pegs i said were already getting odd carp so i was dead and buried as they dont move at the moment. so out on the pole at 13 mtrs first and second drop on single maggot and 2 more 8 oz skimmers were in the net then a small tench , it might not be to be to bad then. then nothing so out to 16 mtrs on caster , again a bite first drop and a 2 lb skimmer then nothing again so back to 13 mtrs and another small skimmer and that was the end of my match, the wag wouldnt work as the wind was now gale force and the float was blowing back towards me , not even a tremble on the tip, all i could get was the occasional small roach on the pole when the wind dropped for a few seconds. todays highlight goes to the human plummet, old 64 turns himself timmy plummet(palant)who stepped off the side of 119 and ended up in waist deep icy water, gutted i didnt see it.
the match was won by chris dare on 114 with 70.01 with maggot on the lead
2nd dave (spray tan)luke on 132 with 62.15 on the wag and towards the end on the pole down the edge all on maggot.
3rd ray hayward peg 13 55.12
4th chris sanford 53.9 peg 8
5th lance(was that the whistle)tucker peg 85 with 53.1
6th phil cardwell 47.4 peg 128
silvers were won by steve jackson on 38 with 23.13 using caster on the wag
2nd viaducts very own monk steve long with 17.3 on lodge lake
i think there must be a coffee shortage in somerton as hayley greenwood is now using egg cups to sell it and also she tried to sell me an out of date pie at the full price , christ she is hard , no wonder paul always looks so down trodden.

i even had to give fabio 2 quid as i had 7 lb for 7 points but he had 11 lb for 15 points, there,s always next week but the forecast is to go cold again so it may be hard . but the met office does have a knack of getting it wrong

viaduct teams of 5 match 3
my turn on spring lake today and when tim clark did the team draw i wasnt to upset to find myself on 16. its an island chuck with the end of the island to myself. its a long cast 50 plus mtrs so a 12 grm skud was set up and a lead rod(needs must and all that). and 1 rig for the pole, a .5 grm with a 18 b3613 to .10 for the g bait line.
on the whistle i cupped in 6 balls at 16 mtrs with a few casters in, then picked up the wag rod, 3 dead mags went on the 18 xedion hook to .18 and it was launched to the island. 3rd chuck and the float buried but the strike didnt connect with anything, but at least there was 1 fish there. it took 40 mins to get another bite , and the strike conncted this time , 10 mins later and what looked like a 16 pounder was safely put into the old onion sack.
the lake fished really hard with tim pallant on 8 ending up with 5 carp, peg 13 had 2 , a few others had 1 and alex murray on 25 was getting silvers on the waggler and maggot, by the end i had had 6 bites on the wag hitting 4 and landing them all , i only had a couple of liners on the tip, and i had 3 bites on the pole for 1 skimmer an d one roach, but it was enough to win the lake as the 4 carp went over 47 lb and the 2 silvers went a pound and a half giving me forty eight and a half pounds.
the match was won by paul greenwood on 85 with155.15 on peg 85 (not to predictable then , roll on spring and summer)

spare a thought for brian shanks as he has turned into our gimp this year, i think he has only weighed in a total of 1lb 1oz in the three matches so far, it just goes to show how peggy it has become in this cold weather, cos we are all aware of how many fish are in these lakes but they are all balled up and not really wanting to spread out and feed.
funniest thing today was steve skelton playing a branch to a standstill only to lose it under his feet when it went round a carp lol
i was going to mention about poor matt parsons not being included in the thatchers team going to monk lakes for the w l semi even though he tells me he has fished it and done well ha ha (was that ok matt)
also i hear hatchett hook has sacked ken rayner from the maver veals team poor ken gets no luck does he

fish at last
today was the first round of the viaduct teams of 5. fairplay to steve and paul who did a brilliant job breaking and clearing ice so the event could happen. if they had left it the match would have been cancelled, and as most people hadnt been for 3 or 4 weeks most were keen to drown some bait. with the team draw done i ended up on peg 61 on lodge, not the best but there is always a chance of a carp and some skimmers .
2 pole rigs today , a 4x14 to a 20 808 and .10 to fish maggot at 16 mtrs over g bait, and single caster over caster at 16 mtr on an angle to my right, i also set up a waggler rod to fish on the deck at 25 mtrs, the last rig was a 4x12 rig on .14 to an 18 xedion hook for the right hand margin as odd big fish do show in the margins. on the whistle 2 balls of g bait with a few casters and pinkies were cupped in at 16 mtrs staight out, some casters on the angle and some down the edge. then i went straight out on the wag with a piece of corn on an 18 hook, the slight breeze was coming ocross and in at me so presentation wasnt the best ,as the float was getting pushed back towards me, so next chuck i deepened up by about 6 inches to try and slow the drag down, and it seemed to work as the float buried anb i hooked what i thought was small carp but it turned out to be a 2lb tench, a good start but after the early excitment i couldnt get another bite on anything or any where, but on our lake both paul blake on 73 and andy lloyd on 53 both into carp straight away, so the rest of the section was going to fighting for 3 place in the section.
looking across on cary i could see george perkins on 85(again) getting carp on maggot on the tip, and clayton hudson on 86 catching on hair rigged corn also on the tip. back to my peg but still no bites and by now tim pallant on 69 had begun to get odd skimmers on the wag so he was looking good for 3rd providing no one else had carp but that was looking unlikely. at half one rob randall on 63 had 2 skimmers on the trot so i decided to come off the wag and try the pole again as there may be a few skimmers over the groundbait i had put in at the start , i hadnt fed again as there had been no indications over it . lowering in a single dead red the float settled and went straight under, and a 2lb hydrid joined the lonely tench , it was now 1.45 and by 2.45 i had 10 skimmers then they were gone, i did put a couple more balls in during that hour and when i did i caught over it straight away, but the last 45 mins were very quite with only a few small roach to show for my efforts.
at the end i thought i had about 14 lb which i reckoned was good enough for 3 rd or at worse 4th in the section(lake). andy lloyd won our lake with 75.2 which was 9 carp on the wag cast into the corner 2nd on our lake was paul blake with 4 carp for 39 lb on the pole down the edge. my skimmer and tench catch went 15.5 for 3rd on the lake but it was also the top silvers catch on the day which means i qualify for the silvers final later in the year.
on the day george perkins won with 144.13 on 85 which was 18 fish
2nd martin preston on131(cambell) with117.2 fishing maggot on the wag
3rd clayton hudson 107.6 peg 86 corn on the lead
