acorn fishery , avon angling wednesday open

24 booked in today so bev let me spread us all round paddock lake, so everyone had at least an empty peg on one side. i let roger andoniou draw for me and i should have known better as he handed me peg 18 which does throw up the occasional carp weight but it is really turning into a good silvers area, oh yes and roger drew a bridge for himself!!!!
for company i had leyton palmer on my right and dave blakemore on my left, after dropping ray bazeley off on peg 31 which isnt to good i drove round to my swim and pulled up 5 yards from my peg as this is one fishery where you can park right by your swim, luxury.
looking round it soon became clear as tom thick was on peg 5 and des shipp was setting up on 6, two of the best pegs on the venue, so i had to target silvers or if i wanted to try and get some overall monies the best i could possibly hope for was third, and that was going to be hard as there were some good anglers sat on good pegs apart from tom and des.
if i was going to catch silvers i wanted to catch them close so i set up a 4x16 rig for 4mtrs with an 18 6313 on .12. i set up a margin rig but never had a bite on that so that wont be mentioned again, then two rigs to fish banded pellet to the far side, both on .16 with a 18 b960 on, one was a dibber to fish shallow and the other was a 4x8 for pellet on the deck.
starting on the caster close i soon started catching roach and skimmers on single caster
whilst feeding 4mm pellet over with a catty, leyton went straight across and had 3 quick carp, and everytime i looked at tom thick he seemed to be playing a carp and i,m sure it wasnt the same one, also des was catching well as was scott puddy on 36,
and as far as the silvers went nigel bartlett on 15 was always looking like a winner even with leyton barracking him nearly non stop, after just 90 mins my silvers line died and i hadnt fed another line so that was the end of my silvers ,i did try putting some casters at 6 mtrs but never had a bite on that either, so the rest of the match was spent fishing the far side, starting on the deck over i soon had a couple of carp but it was i bit hard but i kept the feed going in and with no one really around me feeding enough to the far side my peg got stronger towards the end and come the last hour i had switched to the shallow rig, which in hindsight (that bloody word again)i should have done a lot earlier, and i couldnt get my rig in quick enough, by the end i thought i may have about 90lb but as expected it was going to out of tom and des for first and second but with tim ford, scott puddy and mat tomes all catching even a minor placing was looking in doubt, but as it turned out a bit of luck came my way,
1st on the day was tom thick with 195.15 , a new venue record on peg 5 fishing soft pellet to the far side
2nd des shipp 172lb peg 6
3rd scott puddy 124.11 peg 36
4th mat tomes 110,11 peg 9
5th tony rixon 94.1 peg 18
6th tim ford 81lb peg 34 thanks matey for exceeding the net net limit so i snuck in last in the money. tim did actually weigh 97lb but he was 16.8 over in his net, but he wasnt the only one as des was 3lb over in one net and we didnt even begin to weigh chris davis,s one net as it was miles over.
silvers went to nigel bartlett on 15 with 46.2, mainly on caster, he did feed a worm and a pellet line but the caster swim produced most of his skimmers and roach.
