32 fishing today and only the two main lakes to use as mardons club were on johns lake (no 3)so not to many many gaps on match lake and none at all on speci, so it would be interesting to see how it would go, a quick look at the lakes revealed the brown goldfish(f1,s)were spawning well and you could here the carp sucking at the spawn, the carp sometimes prefer this tasty morsel to pellets making them harder to catch, and these old wary fish are hard enough on some days to fool,
fabio drew for me and gave me peg 15 (nice), for company i had trig edmunds on 13 and roger crago on 16. i set up a shallow rig for against the far bank and for stalking, a rig for on the deck against the island both on .16 with a 16 b960 hook, a 4x12 on .14 with an 18 hook for hard pellet on the deck and a 4x12 on .16 with a 16 xedion hook for meat down the edgeto my left, there is a bush in the water to my right but its a bit of a tackle graveyard, so i left that for roger .
at the start and with trig telling me during the week that my time is over and he was going to batter me i did think he may be right as he mugged one first put in towards the corner of the island, but i hooked one before he had netted his , and that was how the first couple of hours went with niether of us really getting ahead, and with about 10 carp apiece after that time the shallow fish dissapeared so it was over to the far bank but it was hard to get a bait to the bottom as the lake needs a bit of a clear out with twigs and brambles under the water, but the fish were there which is very frustrating, trig by now was fishing up his left hand end bank and catching but the fish were of a slightly smaller size, and luckily he spent a fair bit of time up in the tree,s which was slowing him down, several tries on the deep pellet rig didnt produce a single bite, and there was no fizzing at all so the fish certainly werent feeding on the deck, the meat line to my left produced 5 carp , so by the end i had 23 carp plus a few silvers, and with trig admitting to 100lb i said i thought i had about 70, but new it was a bit more, but it does wind trig up a bit.
walking back round to start the weigh in it was obviou anton page was clear favourite to win as he was admitting to 150lb and with the speci lake fishing hard he would win ,
and he did with 188.8 off peg 22, taking all his fish shallow towards the end of the island on pellet
2nd and NEXT PEG to the winner on 21 was tom mangnal with 112.15
3rd tony rixon 112.3 peg 15

5th adrian clark 88.12 peg 31
