24 booked in for today so steve used all of cambell and part of cary, the started badly with a breafkast at the junction cafe near castle cary, and i got to say it was rubbish, so we wont be going there again.
back to the draw and i manage to pull 125 for myself, for company i had tom thick on 126 and charlie barnes on 123, at least with charlie to my left it left the carp at our end all to me (hopefully)as he is now a silvers ace !!!!!!!!!!!.
i set up a shallow wag rig just in case , a 4x12 for 14 mtrs with a 16 b960 ,
a 4x14 for 5 mtrs with pellet and the same hook as above, a 4x12 for pellet down the edge and a shallow rig in case they came up, all rigs to fish hard pellet, at the start i cupped in some 6,s at 14 mtrs , some 4,s down the edge and at 5 mtrs and began firing some 8,s on the wag line, beginning at 5 mtrs with a hard 6 in the band i soon had a couple of skimmers then hooked a carp, which came in really easy until it reached the pallet and went straight under it behind the front legs and out the other side, as i was using soft elastic i could see it going down the margin on the other side of the pallet , so i knelt down grabbed the elastic and let go of the topset which shot under the pallet where i grabbed it and landed the fish which was a 10lb er,mint.
by now andy lloyd on 127 was catching fish on the shallow wag, but i stuck with the 5mtr line and had some good skimmers plus a few tench and carp, but with the 14 mtr line fizzing i left the short line and went out on an 8mm hard pellet, first fish was a 3lb bream, then nothing ,even though the bubblies were still coming up i couldnt get a bite, with the sun out now there were a few cruisers about so i went out on the shallow rig and managed 3 carp by stalking, i was feeding the 14 mtr line with 6,s but couldnt get a bite shallow in the feed, by now fabio on 118 was catching shallow on the pole but i think that was down to the ripple they had on there side, i did give the pellet wag a go but only managed 2 bites and 1 fish so that was a bit of a waste of time for me , andy lloyd was still catching on the wag, oh i havnt mentioned tom thick yet and i know his grandad, ray thick reads this so just for you ray, THE BOY DONE SHIT, lol.i dont think a week away with bob gullick has helped, obviously tom took to much note of what bob told him.
by switching between the 5 and 14 mtr line i kept odd carp and skimmers going into the net so i ended up with 16 carp and a nice few silvers for well over 100lb, i had andy lloyd down as the winner but i hadnt banked on tony page on 96 cary catching he ended up with 167.12 of carp and 24.9 of silvers for 192.5 total and first on the day, he caught on most methods, shallow on the pole and wag aswell as on the deck on the pole all on hard pellet
2nd andy lloyd 169.15 peg 127
3rd alan oram 169.11 peg 132
4th tony rixon 153.10 peg 125
5th phil harding 121.4 peg 118
6th kev newman 121lb peg 90
silvers went to in form jim baines on 102 with 75.9 of skimmers on meat at 3 mtrs down the edge
